In the evening of 22 March 2018, the Josef Umdasch Research Prize was awarded during the Umdasch Clubbing in the Viennese “Weltmuseum” (World Museum).
The Josef Umdasch Research Prize, established in 1991, honors excellence in the domain of Research and Innovation. This year`s process was organized in co-operation with the World Summit Awards (WSA). WSA is an international network for digital innovations with considerable benefit for society and is hosting respective competitions for startups.
Umdasch Group Ventures has been looking for startups in the category smart settlement & urbanization with related ideas. Out of 57 submissions, the following startups were nominated to pitch at this year´s international WSA Congress in Vienna:
- Kewazo – Smart Scaffolding Assembly System (Germany)
- Ecocell (Nepal) – Interlocking Earth Bricks
- MotherApp (Hong Kong) – Deep Learning Video Analytics for construction sites
- Vertical Printing Technology (USA) – 3D Printing of Buildings
- Cl3ver (Spain) – Visualization of BIM Projects
The winner of the 2018 prize is Kewazo. Hence, Kewazo has been invited to work with us in a joint project. The jury, however, was also fascinated by the idea of Ecocell and spontaneously decided to grant them a special award sponsored by the Umdasch Foundation.
The Umdasch Group had called for innovations in three different categories. In total, 135 ideas from startups were submitted of which 11 finalists pitched in Vienna.
